ai expert roadmap

An AI Expert Roadmap, an interactive career and learning platform designed to help people navigate the AI landscape from beginner to professional.

problem

AI is moving incredibly fast, but figuring out where you actually fit into it is surprisingly difficult. When I started exploring AI, I kept finding the same problem: there was an overwhelming amount of information, but very little guidance on what I should actually learn, what I could ignore, and where each skill could take me professionally. Most AI roadmaps are essentially long lists of courses, technologies, and resources. They tell you what exists, but not necessarily what you should do next. And AI is not one career. You might want to become an AI engineer, work in AI product, move into strategy, specialise in governance, combine AI with marketing or UX, or simply become much better at using AI in your existing career. I wanted to build something that helped answer a more important question: “Where do I go from here?”

solution

I created AI Expert Roadmap, an interactive career and learning platform designed to help people navigate the AI landscape from beginner to professional. Instead of treating AI as a single technical career, the roadmap takes users through a progression from knowledge → capability → evidence → experience → impact → leadership → expertise. The roadmap is structured into seven stages, from Foundations and AI Practitioner through Specialisation, Build, Professional, Leadership, and ultimately AI Expert. It then branches into different career directions including AI Engineering, Data Science, AI Product, AI Strategy, AI Governance, and AI combined with existing domain expertise. I also wanted the platform to go beyond learning resources. It connects learning with certifications, projects, professional experience, measurable impact, and career progression. The certification layer currently brings together 46 credentials across 15 providers and six career paths, with filters that help users find what is actually relevant to their stage and direction. The core idea is simple: AI is not a destination. It is a career landscape.

Story

This project came from my own experience trying to understand where I could fit into the AI world.

The more I learned, the more I realised that there was almost too much information.

Every week there was a new model, framework, certification, course, job title, or AI tool. It was easy to feel like you were constantly behind.

I started thinking about how I would explain the AI landscape to someone who was curious about AI but had no idea where to begin.

That became the product.

I did not want to create another collection of links. I wanted to create something that could actually help someone make a decision.

So I started organising the landscape around progression rather than technology.

How I built it

I built AI Expert Roadmap as an interactive web product, using AI throughout the research, structuring, development, and iteration process.

The product combines a visual roadmap with structured career paths, certification intelligence, filtering, search, recommendations, and detailed learning stages.

The roadmap itself is designed as an interactive map where users can explore stages and branches rather than simply scrolling through a static list.

I used ChatGPT and Claude as development partners, helping me structure the information architecture, research and organise the content, write and refine code, debug interactions, and iterate on the product.

Rather than treating AI as something I was building around, I used AI as part of the actual development environment.

The result is a product that sits somewhere between a career guide, learning roadmap, certification database, and interactive career planning tool.

The platform is designed to evolve with the AI industry rather than remain a static roadmap. The content is explicitly treated as something that needs to be continuously reviewed as AI, certifications, roles, and career paths change.

“Here is where I am. Here is where I could go. What should I do next?”
